Iowa is known for its trophy potential and the incredible hunting opportunities it provides to those lucky enough to draw a tag. We have exclusive hunting rights on over 6 square miles of incredible whitetail habitat located right in the middle of some of the most productive trophy ground in North America.
Our properties range from 80 to 600 acres and are spread out in a 45-mile radius from the lodge. The guides at Timberghost spend countless hours planting and caring for food plots, watching deer trails, studying property aerials, cataloging trail camera photos, and preparing stand locations to create the perfect opportunity to harvest a mature Iowa whitetail.
We use nothing short of the best when it comes to stand safety and comfort. XOP hang-on stands, quality ground blinds, Millenium ladder stands, and weatherproof Shadowhunter box blinds to give us over 150 exciting stand locations throughout our properties. We use over 80 Cuddeback trail cameras to scout our properties each year so we know what deer are in the area and which areas are most productive so we can keep hunters in the action.
We keep a most wanted board updated, along with aerials with stand placements, readily available in the war room so guides and hunters can discuss where they are going and what they are looking for while in the woods. We firmly believe in involving our hunters in all aspects of their hunt with full disclosure on what we know, what we are thinking, and why we are thinking it. While only 2-3 guides will be working with you during your hunt you can rest assured that every guide at Timberghost is talking strategy and paying attention to the details to make sure you have a successful trip. We don’t subscribe to being lucky, we would rather put our skills to use making sure you are in the right spot at the right time, and leave the rest up to you.
In any given week hunters can expect to hunt several different stands on several different properties based on wind direction and current activity so that we do not burn out any one stand location. By trying to keep our hunting pressure limited to 1 hunter per 100 acres per year, we work hard to make sure every hunter has the best chance of crossing paths with a mature, trophy Iowa whitetail and that every property has the potential to have world class deer on it at any given time. Free-range hunts are semi-guided 5 day hunts.
All Free-Range hunts include lodging, meals, guide, and field prep of your harvest. A 7% Iowa sales tax and shipping of the cape, antlers, or meat are not included in the cost of the hunt and while staff gratuities are always welcome they are at your sole discretion.
In addition to the hunt cost, applicants must pay all state application fees for preference points, license, and tags. We require a $500 deposit to hold a spot for the year you draw and we will help you through the process by gathering the information and making the application on your behalf. All you must do is be patient while going through the process and prepared for the year of your hunt. It is worth the wait!!
